SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC FINGERPRINTING AND CHEMICAL DETERMINATION OF STREPTOMYCIN, AMIKACIN, NEOMYCIN, AND GENTAMYCIN SULPHATE BY CONDENSING WITH NINHYDRIN REAGENT

Objective: The study aimed to develop a simple, efficient, inexpensive, rapid, and reproducible spectrophotometric analytical technique for aminoglycosides analysis by condensing with ninhydrin reagent. Methods: At pH of 8.0, different aminoglycosides, including amikacin, gentamycin, neomycin, streptomycin, were deaminated the working standard solution each component was accurately placed into series 10 ml calibrated volumetric flasks, then 1 reagent added heated in water bath 15 min. wavelength(s) maximum absorption(s) recorded after scanning resultant purple complex from 350 nm 930 nm. final concentrations ranged between 1600 2000 ug/ml. Results: average weight neomycin sulphate tablet 0.747g, deviation 0.667%. After complexing at 6.0 min, all developed coloration that lasted beyond 24 h, compared initial white, pale yellow, colorless appearance respectively. scanned spectra formed reaction visible region (350-900 nm) similar, indicating presence common parent structural moiety. 550 nm, 650 750 850 distinct absorptions observed. Amikacin, Streptomycin, Gentamicin had highest absorbance 800 900 ninhydrin, three absorbances observed Neomycin spectrum: 380 400 580 600 around comparative four blank show unique feature compounds. coefficients regression 0.996 0.995, Conclusion: proposed methods analyzing streptomycin injections successful. percentage purity 017–110 % which corresponds British Pharmacopoeia (BP) limit tablets should be 97.00 110%.
